Pan African University: Meet the new Rector, Prof Jean Koulidiati

The new Rector of the Pan African University, Prof Jean Koulidiati, will be installed into function this Friday, October 27, 2023 in Yaounde, at the end of the Pan African University Council which held in Yaounde from October 25 to 26, 2023.

Prof Jean Koulidiati was appointed in June 2023 to replace Prof Kassa Belay, who went on retirement in 2021.

Prof Jean Koulidiati, an Astute Academician

Prof Jean Koulidiati is a University Professor and Pedagogic Coordinator of the delocalized Master’s Degree in Management and International Trade of Jean Moulin Lyon 3 at the Joseph KI-ZERBO University (former University of Ouagadougou).

Between 2003 and 2007, he was Vice President in charge of Professionalisation University Relations at the University of Ouagadougou.

He was Director of the Environmental Physics and Chemistry Laboratory (LPCE) from 2000 to 2017, Director of the Institute of Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Development (IGEDD) from 2004 to 2017 and President of the University of Ouagadougou between 2007 and 2011.

From 2013 to 2019, Prof Jean Koulidiati was President of the College of Sciences and Techniques of the National Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters of Burkina Faso. During this same period, he was Vice President of the National Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters of Burkina Faso.

He was also President of the West African Physics Society (SOAPHYS) from 2017 to 2022.

He also brought in many innovations by creating new fields of study and canvassing for the creation of laboraties in the University of Ouagadougou.

Service to Government of Burkina Faso

The new Rector was once Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development in Burkina Faso.

He was also Minister of Development of the Digital Economy and Postal Services in Burkina Faso.

In 2011, under his leadership, the Government of Burkina Faso unveiled the Wind Atlas of Burkina Faso, which was an important step towards achieving the objectives of energy security, while enabling the country to move towards sustainable development in the energy sector.

The University Don, who went on retirement from the Burkinabé administration on July 11, 2023, counts 32 years of active service.
